Životopis

Vyrůstal v Nashvillu, žil v New Yorku a Londýně, než se usadil v Baltimoru v Marylandu . Vystudoval Princetonskou univerzitu , kde získal Cenu Mathise Warda a Cenu Františka LeMoyna Page, a Hollins University , kde získal Cenu Andrewa Jamese Purdyho za beletrii.

Bell učil v různých programech tvůrčího psaní a je profesorem na en: Goucher College v Towson v Marylandu .

Byl pozván na festival Étonnants Voyageurs v roce 2009.

Je ženatý s básnířkou Elisabeth Spire .
